Olajumoke Akinjide, a former minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated March 30, and addressed to her ward chairman in Ona Ara LGA of Oyo state, the former minister said her resignation takes immediate effect.
“This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001. I came to this difficult decision after a long period of personal reflection,” the letter reads.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a member of the party, and for the experiences and relationships built during my time as a member of the party. I appreciate the platform it provided for political engagement and office, and I wish the party success in the future.”
Kehinde Olaosebikan, former chairman of Oluyole LGA in Oyo, told TheCable on Monday evening that Akinjide, who was minister between 2011 and 2015, is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akinjide served as special assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on FCT matters, G77 affairs and the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation from 2001 to 2003.
