Hon Victor Ochei
Asaba – Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending nearly a decade of membership in the ruling party.
Ochei announced his resignation in a formal letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward 4 Chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
His media aide, Austin Edemodu, confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Key Quotes from Victor Ochei:
In his exit statement, the former Speaker explained that the decision came after “deep reflections and wide consultations” with political associates and supporters.
“In 2016, I joined the All Progressives Congress with sincerity of purpose and a strong belief in the vision and future of the party. Over the last ten years, I devoted myself wholeheartedly to building and strengthening the APC at all levels.”
Ochei highlighted his contributions to the party, noting that he worked with other loyal members to expand its reach and deepen its structures across Delta State.
“Together with many committed party faithfuls, we expanded the party’s reach, deepened its structures, mobilised support across communities, and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility.”
He stressed that his departure was not driven by bitterness:
“This decision is not borne out of bitterness, resentment, or hostility toward anyone. Rather, it is inspired by my enduring commitment to service, progress, and the political future I envision for our people.”
Ochei added:
“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course.”
He expressed gratitude to his supporters and urged them to remain peaceful and committed to democratic ideals while he continues his political journey elsewhere.
Political Context:
Victor Ochei, who served as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2014 and is regarded as one of the longest-serving Speakers in the state’s history, has been a prominent figure in Delta politics.
His exit from the APC comes amid ongoing political realignments in Delta State and across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of now, Ochei has not publicly disclosed his next political destination, though speculation is rife about possible moves to opposition platforms such as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) or others.
This latest defection adds to the growing list of notable politicians leaving the APC in Delta State, raising questions about the party’s internal cohesion as the 2027 polls approach.
The story is still developing.
