Story for tonight… (The 3 Wives of Chief Adebayo contd)
The marriage had been performed.
The rites completed.
The title earned.
But as the evening sun stretched lazily across the high gates of Chief Adebayo’s mansion, one truth became painfully clear—

Sade had entered the house…
But not the life she imagined.
She arrived just before dusk.
Behind her stood three men—two of her loyal aides, her best friend, and the driver of the moving truck loaded with her belongings. Boxes. Suitcases. Dreams… carefully packed and carried into a future she had fought so desperately to claim.
The security men at the gate exchanged glances before stepping forward with professional restraint.
“Madam, please wait. We need to inform Chief and Alhaja.”
The word Alhaja pierced her.
Still, Sade lifted her chin.
“I am Mrs. Adebayo,” she replied coolly.
Yet, she waited.
Because deep down…
She already knew.
Inside the mansion, the Chief Security Officer approached Taiwo and Modupe.
“Sir… Madam… Miss Sade is at the gate. With her belongings.”
There was a brief silence.
Taiwo turned to Modupe.
“Is her suite ready?”
Modupe nodded gently. “Yes.”
Taiwo exhaled slowly, his face hardening.
“Good. Then let her in.”
He paused.
“And read the rules to her.”
“That’s fine, sweetheart,” Dupe replied, silently thanking Allah for the way things are panning out, especially since she would dictate the way things go. Loving Taiwo more for the love and respect he has for her.
Dupe didn’t also forget to admire the roles Alpha and Iya Ramota played in guiding her.
By the time the Chief Security Officer returned to the gate—45 long minutes later—the tension had thickened.
The driver was irritated.
The aides whispered among themselves.
Even Sade’s best friend shifted uneasily.
But Sade stood still.
Rigid. Silent. Burning.
When the gates finally opened, the truck rolled in slowly—like a surrender.
Inside the grand living room, Taiwo and Modupe were already seated.
Waiting.
Watching.
As Sade entered, her eyes instinctively searched Taiwo’s face.
No warmth.
No longing.
No triumph.
Only distance.
Her belongings were quietly taken upstairs to the private suite prepared for her—luxurious, yes… but tucked away. Separate. Controlled.
When the last box disappeared from sight, Taiwo rose.
He looked directly at her.
“Are you ready,” he asked coldly, “for the life you have chosen?”
Sade swallowed the knot in her throat.
“Yes,” she replied, forcing strength into her voice.
In her mind, she reassured herself—
This is temporary.
Modupe will fade away.
I will take my place.
Taiwo turned to Modupe.
“Explain the rules.”
And just like that… he walked away.
Modupe stood.
Graceful. Calm. Untouchable.
Then she began.
Taiwo would only eat her food, meals prepared exclusively by her.
Sade could cook for herself or use the chef.
All clarifications must go through her.
The master bedroom was forbidden.
Taiwo would come to Sade only if he wished.
His personal number was no longer accessible to her.
Her alluring s3xy dressing would be restricted to her suite.
She could move around town —with a driver and 2 plain clothed security officers. She should feel free to go into town alone, without her driver or escort.
Each rule landed like a verdict.
Each rule… a chain.
“Is this a marriage?” Sade wondered.
Or a beautifully decorated prison?
Modupe finished calmly.
“If anything is unclear, feel free to ask.”
And she walked away.
That night, Sade sat alone in her new suite.
The silence was loud.
The bed felt unfamiliar.
The walls… cold.
For the first time since the wedding—
Fear crept in.
Day 1 passed.
Then Day 2.
Then Day 3.
By Day 5…
Reality had settled.
She never saw Taiwo.
Not once.
Only glimpses through her window—
His car driving out.
Returning.
Leaving again.
Without her.

The same man who once couldn’t stay away from her…
Now felt like a stranger across worlds.
Her only companion was her maid—handpicked by Modupe.
Quiet. Efficient. Distant.
On the fifth night, Sade broke.
“Where do I go from here…?” she whispered in tears.
“How do I undo this?”
“What will people say?”
Her voice cracked.
“Maybe one day… he will remember me.”
But laughter echoed faintly through the walls.

Taiwo and Modupe.
Happy.
Connected.
Three rooms away…
Yet impossibly far.
The sound shattered her.
The next morning, she went back to Baba.
But this time—
Not as a woman in control.
As a woman desperate.
Baba listened quietly.
Then sighed.
“The bond between Taiwo and Modupe is not ordinary,” he said.
“It cannot be broken.”
“Not by any man, no matter how strong.”
Silence followed.
Then came the final blow.
“You must prepare for a third wife.”
Sade froze.
“A younger one. Very beautiful.”
Something inside her snapped.
“At this point… I don’t think I have any business staying alive.”
Baba looked at her carefully.
“You will not lack money.” Chief has vowed that any woman who has had anything intimate with him, will not lack,” he said.
“Before you ever think of harming yourself, remember those who depend on you.”
“Endure.”
Endure.
The word echoed heavily.
As she left the shrine, tears flowed freely.
“The odds are against me…”
“What have I done?”
And for the first time—
Sade understood the truth.
She had not won.
She had walked into a battle…
Already lost.
