Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment was announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

Professor Badejo, a specialist in Guidance and Counselling, succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure has ended. Olatunji-Bello assumed office as the ninth substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASU in September 2021.
According to the official statement, Professor Badejo (née Faji) was born on August 4, 1962. She holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Guidance and Counselling, both from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She is a Professor of Guidance and Counselling.
The statement read in part: “Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor BADEJO Ayodeji Olawumi (Nee Faji) as Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).”
Olatunji-Bello recently concluded her tenure, highlighting the achievements of her administration during her final public addresses, including the university’s research and innovation initiatives.
The appointment comes as LASU continues to strengthen its position as a leading state university in Nigeria. Further details on the effective date of assumption of office and any formal handover ceremony were not immediately provided in the announcement.
Professor Badejo’s appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of academic leadership at the institution.
