A woman and her husband intervened to stop police officers from taking two young boys away in a viral video circulating widely on social media Wednesday, after the officers allegedly searched the boys’ phones and began loading them into a van.
The footage, shared by X user @dammiedammie35, shows a tense roadside confrontation on a dusty stretch of road under cloudy skies.
In the clip, a woman in a red dress stands firm near a silver van, telling officers: “Are you crazy? These two boys are not going anywhere! You have to release them immediately.”
She questions the targeting of young men, asking whether officers single out every boy who styles his hair. One of the boys, who appears to be recording parts of the encounter, claims officers pushed his companion into the van and slapped him while still checking his phone.
An officer is heard explaining that the boys resisted the phone checks, calling them illegal searches, and warns that even if a boy’s father is the Inspector-General of Police, respect is required first. Another officer urges the recording boy to calm down; he replies that he will not after being forced toward the bus.
According to the original post accompanying the video, the officers had searched the boys’ phones and told them to call anyone they wished. One boy contacted his parents. The father, described as a senior police officer, arrived with the mother (or a relative identified as the woman in the video), leading to the confrontation that prevented the boys from being taken away.

Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai has previously warned officers against searching citizens’ phones during operations, instructing them to focus on vehicle checks and passenger verification instead.
