Dupe and Taiwo
Story for tonight…
Chief. and Alhaja. Adebayo had found their way back to each other…
But peace had never stayed long in Taiwo Adebayo’s life.

—
The voice came again that evening.
The voice his mother had always called the voice of Eledumare.
It did not shout.
It did not argue.
It simply instructed:
“Go home. Be a husband tonight.”
And for once, Taiwo obeyed.
—
Earlier that day, Modupe had quietly packed his suitcase.
Neatly arranged shirts.
Perfectly folded suits.
Ties selected with intention.
She had done it with the calm efficiency of a woman who understood her husband’s world… even when she wasn’t part of it.
She was particularly careful to place the ensembles that Alpha worked on so they are the first ones he would wear as instructed.
Taiwo stood by the door, watching her.
Something shifted inside him.
“Cancel whatever you have planned,” he said suddenly.
Modupe looked up.
“You’re coming with me.”
She blinked.
“What?”
“This trip,” he continued, softer now. “You’re coming with me. No arguments.”
Before she could respond, he added quietly:
“We never had a proper honeymoon.”
Silence.
“I was too broke when I had time… and too busy when I had money.”
He stepped closer.
“But not this time.”
His voice dropped.
“From my Dubai meetings… we’ll go to lover’s islands, anywhere in the world. Real destinations. Places we should have gone to from the beginning.”
A slow smile spread across Modupe’s face.
“And this time,” he teased, “if you don’t come back to Nigeria with belle… just know say e remain small.”
She burst into laughter, hitting his chest lightly.
He then chased her around the room pretending to want to retalite.

—
Later that night, something changed.
They were no longer Chief Adebayo and his wife.
They were Taiwo and Dupe again.
Young.
Playful.
Alive.

—
“Come here,” Taiwo said, pulling her close.
“I still don’t understand why I protected you like that on Iwo Road… rain or sun.”
Modupe smiled.
“And I prayed for you,” she said softly. “When they said you left in a strange car… I prayed every day that you would come back.”
Taiwo looked at her…
Then suddenly smacked her backside.
“Hey!” she screamed, shocked.
She ran.
He chased her.
Around the room.
Laughing.
Free.
For a moment… nothing else existed.
He caught her again, tickling her until she collapsed on the bed, breathless with laughter.
“Taiwo!” she gasped.
He leaned over her, smiling.

And then—
Her phone rang.
—
Unknown number.
—
“Don’t mind that Jezebel in my office,” Taiwo muttered, still catching his breath. “I’ve returned her to sender.”
Modupe said nothing.
But deep inside…
She silently acknowledged Alpha.
Good work.
The signs were already showing.
—
She picked the call.
“Good evening, Sisi Modupe.”
The laughter in the room died instantly.
Taiwo froze.
He knew that voice.
—
“I’m Chief Adebayo’s wife and business partner,” Modupe replied calmly.
A pause.
Then the strike came.
“Whatever you have done to take my husband from me… know that you have met your match.”
Taiwo surged forward, but Modupe stopped him with a look.
Wait.
—
“Better release him back to me… or prepare for the unexpected.”
That was it.
Taiwo grabbed the phone.
His voice turned cold.
“Listen carefully,” he said. “End this now.”
A soft laugh came.
“You don’t even know the man you married anymore.”
Taiwo’s jaw tightened.
“You have no idea what you’re getting into.”
“Oh, I do,” she replied calmly. “The question is… do you?”
Click.
—
Silence.
Heavy.
Unforgiving.
—
Modupe turned slowly to her husband.
Not angry.
Not afraid.
But certain.
This was no longer just a marriage.
This was war.
—
Far away, Sade lowered her phone.
A slow smile spread across her face.
The game had finally begun.
And this time…
She was playing to win.
