LAGOS, Nigeria — Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has publicly rejected her reported inclusion in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Campaign Council, insisting she is not a member of any campaign structure and is staying out of politics.
In an Instagram story posted on Thursday, September 17, 2026, Abraham stated: “I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently, I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee.”
She overlaid the message on a screenshot of a news headline announcing her name among entertainers listed for the council, marking it with a large “Disregard” stamp. Abraham also shared the same statement on her X account (@toyin_abraham1) later that evening.
Earlier on Thursday, the Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Media Centre released the full list of the Lagos APC Campaign Council ahead of its planned inauguration on Friday, September 18, at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja. Abraham (listed as Ms. Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi) was named a member of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.
The directorate is headed by Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director, with veteran actor Jide Kosoko as Co-Director and actress Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director. Other notable names on the list include Bimbo Akintola, Fathia Balogun, Yinka Quadri, Oga Bello (Adebayo Salami), Fuji musicians Pasuma, Obesere, Adewale Ayuba, and several others. The broader campaign council is chaired by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as Deputy Chairman.
Abraham’s swift rejection aligns with her previous public comments on politics. After facing significant backlash for openly supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections—backlash she later said negatively affected her career and films—she has repeatedly stated she would no longer publicly declare political affiliations. In early 2026, she advised a fellow actor to remain neutral and avoid politics to protect their career.
Her latest statement makes clear that any listing of her name on the APC campaign structure was made without her consent or involvement. As of Thursday evening, there has been no immediate response from the Lagos APC or the Hamzat Media Centre regarding her disclaimer.
Abraham remains one of Nollywood’s most prominent producers and actresses, known for commercially successful films. She has consistently emphasized focusing on her craft rather than partisan politics in recent years.
