There was drama outside the premises of the High Court in Abuja as people called out Judy Austin after she left the court premises following a ₦2 billion lawsuit against veteran actress Rita Edochie and her former husband, Emmanuel Obasi.
After Tuesday’s appearance and she made to leave the court premises, a group of women outside the gate began jeering and booing at her calling her “Husband snatcher, who is taking her in-law to court?”
The High Court in Abuja has adjourned the defamation case between actress Judy Austin Yul-Edochie and her ex-husband. Emmanuel Obasi, to November 24.
Back in July, Judy filed a suit against Obasi before the court, asking for an order to compel Obasi to pay her the sum of N1 billion in general damages for defamation.
According to the court papers, Judy asked the court to compel Obasi to publish a full and unreserved retraction and apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and across his social media platforms, issue a restraining order against him and his agents from further publishing defamatory contents about her.
She also demanded that they take down all defamatory posts he has made against her, pay her the sum of N100m as cost for presecuting this suit, pay her N500m as aggravated damages over the defamatory posts he has made about her in the past, pay her N500m in examplary damages, pay her N100m as cost of this action pool.
The case came up for hearing this morning, and according to a post on social media by Obasi, it has now been adjourned till November 24. He said that through his counsel, he has filed a case challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear such a matter.
