New Jersey, USA — African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has celebrated his son, Olukomi (also known as Komi) Sowore, on the occasion of his 17th birthday.
In a post on his X handle on Friday, September 11, 2026, Sowore described his son as strong, courageous and independent-minded.
“Today is my comrade son Olukomi’s 17th birthday! Watching him grow into the young man he is today has been an incredible joy. Olukomi has an indomitable spirit, strong, courageous, independent-minded, and determined. Happy 17th birthday, my son and comrade!” he wrote.
The celebration comes shortly after Sowore returned to his family home in New Jersey following 20 months away from his wife and children. In a separate post on Thursday, the activist disclosed that he had finally reunited with his family after the prolonged separation.
Sowore linked the long absence to what he described as repeated actions by the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He alleged that Nigerian authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, had targeted his international passport and restricted his movement through detentions and bail conditions.
The activist, who has been a prominent critic of successive Nigerian governments and a consistent advocate for political change, has previously spoken publicly about the personal sacrifices his activism has imposed on his family life. His son Olukomi has been noted in past posts for his interest in football and determination, including aspirations inspired by Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
The birthday message and family reunion have drawn warm reactions from supporters who view the moment as a rare personal interlude in Sowore’s often intense public and political engagements.
