The Imo State Police Command has launched an urgent search and rescue operation following the reported kidnapping of 17-year-old Miss Mary Ezinwayi Uzoma, a first-year Microbiology student at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).
Following the reported kidnapping of Miss Mary Ezinwayi Uzoma, a 17-year-old student at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, the Imo State Police Command has initiated coordinated search and rescue operations.
According to reports, the 100 level microbiology student was abducted at FUTO/Ihiagwa Road in Owerri West LGA.
As part of continuous efforts to find the victim, the Command said it had quickly mobilized to the spot in coordination with local vigilantes. Adjacent bushes and adjacent areas were immediately subjected to heavy search operations.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has instructed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take over the case and continue intelligence-led operations in concert with other security agencies, according to a statement released by police spokesperson Henry Okoye on Tuesday.
“The directive is part of proactive measures aimed at ensuring the victim’s safe rescue and the perpetrators’ prompt arrest,” the statement stated.
According to Pkoye, the CP has strengthened security deployment throughout the FUTO axis and surrounding areas as a result of the development, with continuous patrols, surveillance, and visibility policing currently in place.
He advised students, school administrators, and state citizens to maintain composure, be watchful, and carry on with their legal activities while assuring them of the Command’s steadfast commitment to their protection.
“The Imo State Police Command continues to be proactive and unwavering in its mission to deter crime and safeguard people and property.”
The announcement further stated that “members of the public with useful information are encouraged to report at the nearest police station or contact 0803 477 3600.”
