The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Inspector Osumah Frank following a viral video in which he made ethnically charged and politically biased remarks against Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the Igbo ethnic group.
In a statement issued on Friday, 25 September 2026, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the officer had been identified and taken into custody. Disciplinary proceedings have commenced against him in accordance with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The video, which circulated widely on social media from around 23 September 2026, showed Inspector Frank, while travelling in a commercial vehicle and dressed in police uniform, declaring that “Igbo can never become president” of Nigeria.
He further claimed that even if Peter Obi won an election, “oga will use money to deal with him” and prevent him from entering Aso Rock. The officer also described Obi as a “small child,” suggested the 2027 presidential contest should be limited to President Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, and made unsubstantiated allegations linking Obi and Igbos to internet fraud and rituals.
Passengers in the vehicle, some speaking Igbo, can be heard in the background condemning the remarks.
SP Adebisi described the officer’s comments as “careless, inappropriate and uncultured.” She emphasised that the statements were made in Inspector Frank’s personal capacity and do not represent the official position of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reiterated that all personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times. “Wearing the Police uniform comes with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force. The command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police,” the statement said.
The arrest forms part of the Command’s commitment to transparency and accountability. Further updates on the outcome of the disciplinary process are expected.
