Lagos – The Lagos State Government has delivered a total of 10,623 housing units across the state in the last 7 years as part of its aggressive efforts to tackle the housing deficit and provide affordable shelter for residents.
The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, disclosed this figure during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja.

He noted that the units were delivered through direct government funding and various Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.
Key Achievements:
Since 2019, the Sanwo-Olu administration has successfully completed and commissioned 23 housing estates spread across Lagos State’s five administrative divisions.
These estates cater to low, medium, and high-income earners with a mix of 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedroom units, including flats, terraces, and semi-detached houses.
Recent notable deliveries include:
1. 420 housing units at the Akinsanya Sunny Ajose Housing Estate in Ajara, Badagry.
2. 233 housing units at the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate in Ajah, Eti-Osa.
The Commissioner stated that ongoing projects will push the total number of housing units delivered under this administration to 14,022 by the end of 2026.
Addressing Housing Deficit:
Lagos State faces one of the largest housing deficits in Nigeria.
The government’s housing initiatives aim to bridge this gap by expanding housing stock, promoting home ownership, and creating an enabling environment for private sector participation.
Hon. Akinderu-Fatai emphasized that the state is also exploring alternative building materials and innovative construction methods to reduce costs and accelerate delivery while maintaining quality standards.
Significance:
This achievement underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to its “Greater Lagos” vision, focusing on inclusive urban development and improving the living conditions of Lagos residents.
The delivery of over 10,000 units in seven years represents one of the most significant housing contributions by any administration in the state’s recent history.
As the 2027 general elections approach, housing delivery remains a critical benchmark for assessing governance performance in Lagos State.
The story is still developing.SEO Keywords incorporated:
