The Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of a workers’ village, a new housing scheme at Ajasa, Command in the Ipaja area of the State.
The project consists of 11 blocks of 16 units in one- and two-bedroom apartments, which will deliver 176 units of new homes with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Speaking while conducting an extensive inspection of the project, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, emphasised that the project will further assist the State Government to provide access to more affordable homes for the teeming population, especially the working class.
The Commissioner, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Adulhafis Toriola and the technical team of the Ministry also inspected the ongoing Egan-Igando Housing Scheme, which comprises 636 residential home units and includes a football pitch, tennis court, shopping mall, a solar-powered water filtration system and shops, creating a self-sustaining community.
Hon Akinderu-Fatai urged the contractors to complete the project in a matter of weeks so that the Ministry can prepare the scheme for commissioning by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “We are here to assess the progress of work and identify areas requiring urgent attention. We have a contractor who is far behind schedule, and that is one of the major challenges we are addressing. However, that will not stop us from moving ahead with our plans to complete these projects,” he said.
The Commissioner noted that the inspection is a continuous monitoring exercise to ensure quality delivery, stating, “Every inspection allows us to verify that construction is progressing according to specification, identify areas requiring attention and ensure that quality is never compromised.”
At the Beacon Estate, a joint venture between Lagos State Government and a private firm at Ipaja, the Ministry’s team inspected the 126 housing units comprising an ongoing 80 two-bedroom and fully completed 48 three-bedroom apartments. He reaffirmed, “The Lagos State Government remains committed to delivering housing projects that meet the expectations of our citizens and reflect the administration’s vision of a #Greater Lagos.”
The Commissioner reassured Lagosians of housing affordability. He made it known that as far as the Lagos State Government is concerned, the LagosHoms housing schemes will be affordable for even the low-income earners, and as a result, they will only pay below the general housing market industry rate. He said, “Mr. Governor will always make sure that people buying these houses pay less than the standard market rate. He called upon the private sector to, as well, initiate housing projects that low-income earners can actually benefit from and assist the State in bridging the housing deficit.
The Commissioner disclosed that all the inspected ongoing projects are expected to be completed before the end of the year, subject to continued adherence to approved specifications and project schedules.
He further assured that the Ministry would sustain close supervision of every project, adding, “We will continue to maintain close supervision of all ongoing housing projects to ensure that every contractor delivers quality work in line with the standards expected by the Government and the people of Lagos State”.
