LAGOS, Nigeria — Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has explained why his ailing colleague, Taiwo Hassan (popularly known as Ogogo), cannot currently be moved from the hospital despite receiving hundreds of offers of medical, spiritual and traditional assistance.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Kosoko expressed profound gratitude on behalf of Ogogo’s family and colleagues for the overwhelming support that followed public appeals by the actor’s daughters.

He stressed, however, that Ogogo’s medical condition makes relocation impractical at this stage.
“We have received offers from more than 300, and even over 500 people, each sincerely believing that they have something that could help him,” Kosoko stated. “The challenge is simply: Where do we take him to? And how do we move him from the hospital while he is receiving care?”
He appealed to well-wishers not to feel offended or disappointed if the family is unable to accept individual offers of spiritual assistance or treatment.
“It is extremely difficult to move him from the hospital to different locations at this stage of his treatment, especially considering the large number of people who have offered to help,” the statement continued.
Kosoko urged the public to continue praying for Ogogo, expressing strong faith in divine intervention. “Please, continue to pray with us. We believe strongly that, with your prayers, our prayers, and the mercy of Almighty God, Taye will come out of this situation. There is nothing impossible before Almighty God,” he said.
Some reports indicated that fellow veteran actor Yinka Quadri joined Kosoko in the clarification, reinforcing the same message of appreciation and the practical constraints involved.
The statement comes after Ogogo’s daughters, Kira and Haleemah (also referred to as Shakira and Lima in some reports), made emotional public appeals revealing that their father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer about three weeks earlier.
They said local hospitals had indicated that chemotherapy could no longer continue and sought help in exploring further medical options, including alternative treatments. The family emphasised they were not primarily seeking financial donations but access to specialists or facilities that could assist.
The appeals generated widespread concern across the entertainment industry and social media, prompting an outpouring of support and offers of various forms of intervention.
Doctors have previously clarified that for advanced stage-four cancer, care may shift to palliative approaches focused on symptom management and quality of life once curative options have been exhausted.
Taiwo Hassan, aged about 66, is a prominent figure in Yoruba Nollywood with a career spanning more than four decades and appearances in over 300 films. He remains one of the industry’s most recognisable veteran actors.
As of the latest updates, Ogogo continues to receive care in hospital. His family and colleagues have reiterated calls for sustained prayers while prioritising his ongoing medical treatment.
