Ede, Osun State — Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, held a post-election press conference at his country home in Ede, Osun State, where he celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and described the victory as a hard-fought “war” against powerful political forces.
Speaking two days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the 15 August governorship election, Davido congratulated the governor on securing a second term.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
“Congrats to Mr Governor on his re-election for the second term. Well-deserved, hard-fought battle. In fact, let me not call it battle, war. When you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Representatives, I don’t know how many there were, against one man, and he came out victorious. God is good,” Davido said.
The singer attributed the success primarily to the people of Osun, particularly the youths, whom he praised for defending their votes from the polling units through to the collation centres. “Shout out to Osun youths. You guys did really give hope to the people in Osun; you guys gave hope to the whole Nigeria. I wonder what the people would be talking if the result were otherwise,” he stated, adding that he cried multiple times on election day because of the overwhelming support.
Davido said Adeleke’s victory should serve as a lesson to other public office holders. “My uncle, the governor, should be an example to all other government officials out there, and governors. It shows that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” he noted. He expressed excitement about the next four years, observing that Osun was already “thriving” under Adeleke’s leadership.
As Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, Davido outlined plans to complete the ongoing stadium project and establish a recreational centre for youths featuring football fields, swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, and athletics tracks. He also spoke of organising a major concert in the state after the governor’s inauguration in December, which would provide a platform for young local talents.
When asked about personal political ambitions, Davido firmly ruled them out. “No, I don’t have any future political ambition,” he said, emphasising that his focus remains on music. He called for unity and forgiveness among residents for the sake of peace in the state.
The press conference came amid continued celebrations of Adeleke’s victory and followed Davido’s active campaign support for his uncle throughout the electoral process.
