Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced that 250 women in each senatorial district across the South-East will receive ₦200,000 each to start or expand businesses.
The declaration was made during the South-East Women Mega Empowerment rally and the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mobilisation Directorate campaign, held at Michael Okpara Square in Enugu on Saturday.

In a video clip from the event shared widely online, Mrs Tinubu stated: “We are giving ₦200,000 each to 250 women to help them start businesses across the South-East senatorial districts.”
The event formed part of broader empowerment activities under the Renewed Hope Initiative. Hundreds of women from Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo states received items such as sewing machines, food processors, generators, popcorn machines and other livelihood support tools. Thousands of women attended the colourful rally, which also featured APC leaders and South-East governors.
Mrs Tinubu said Nigeria had moved past the most difficult phase of economic reforms and was now “stepping into prosperity.” She urged women in the region to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 and mobilise for APC candidates at all levels.
She further announced related nationwide programmes: on December 3, 2026 (International Day of Persons with Disabilities), 250 persons with disabilities in each of Nigeria’s 109 senatorial districts will receive ₦200,000 each. A similar empowerment scheme for 250 elderly persons per senatorial district is scheduled for December 17.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, who attended the rally, noted that more than 2,000 women in the state had already benefited from related support in the preceding days, including cash assistance, hospital bill payments and business tools. He described the programmes as efforts to turn women into wealth creators rather than dependents.
The empowerment drive is part of ongoing APC mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the First Lady linking the initiatives to the broader Renewed Hope Agenda.
