ABUJA — Businessman and political commentator Isaac Fayose has mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) for reportedly appointing Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as campaign coordinator for Rivers State and the FCT ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video posted on his verified Facebook page on Monday, Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, described the move as evidence that the ruling party is already “confused.”
“The situation is critical for the APC. Early this morning, they weakly announced Wike to head the campaign in Rivers State and Abuja, just after my video. If you can’t convince them, you can confuse them. They are already confused,” he said.
Fayose insisted the appointment would not weaken the electoral prospects of the “Obidients” or the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He claimed five APC governors remain secretly aligned with his side and predicted Wike would fail in both territories.
“My Obidients, the five governors I earlier said are still with us. They are standing with us. We are going to defeat Wike in Rivers and in Abuja. If they like let them appoint him and reappoint him. He will lose in Abuja. He will lose in Rivers because already we are stronger in Rivers and Abuja than the APC,” Fayose added.
The comments follow reports that President Bola Tinubu is set to assign Wike a defined role coordinating the APC campaign structure in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Sources indicated the arrangement aims to leverage Wike’s political network while allowing him to retain membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike has previously stated that he is not a member of the APC and does not require a formal position in the party’s Presidential Campaign Council to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election. The development comes amid ongoing tensions between the FCT minister and some APC governors over campaign strategies and the role of his cross-party Rainbow Coalition.
Fayose’s latest remarks build on his earlier allegation that five unnamed APC governors are quietly backing the NDC in a bid to prevent Wike from delivering Rivers State and the FCT for the ruling party. Those claims have not been independently verified, and neither the APC nor the governors involved have publicly responded to the latest video as of Monday afternoon.
The exchanges underscore the intensifying political manoeuvring as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
