Ota, Ogun State — Covenant University marked its 24th Founder’s Day Anniversary Thanksgiving with a powerful declaration from Chancellor Dr. David Oyedepo that the institution’s progress remains unstoppable.
Addressing the gathering, Oyedepo stated: “Whatever cannot stop the sun from shining cannot stop Covenant University from advancing.” The remark captured the spirit of the celebration, which highlighted 24 years of God’s faithfulness, growing global impact, and sustained academic excellence.

The university, established on October 21, 2002, in Canaanland, Ota, has built a strong reputation for raising a new generation of leaders. Oyedepo described the anniversary as a moment to reflect on divine provision and institutional growth, attributing the university’s achievements and international recognition to its spiritual foundation and unwavering commitment to its founding vision.
Speaking on the theme “Seven Hidden Treasures of Thanksgiving,” the Chancellor portrayed Covenant University as a divine project sustained by faith. He recalled a pivotal encounter on February 12, 2002, at NICON Hotel in Abuja, where he sought confirmation about the institution’s ownership and future. The response “It is I,” he said, affirmed its divine ordination. He further noted that the location was identified as Hebron, a place destined for raising kings and queens, after which he committed the university’s operations fully into God’s hands.
In his message titled “Thanksgiving: A Pathway to Supernatural Advancement,” Oyedepo emphasized that thanksgiving goes beyond mere gratitude. He described it as a spiritual force that strengthens believers, opens doors for breakthroughs, and sustains progress even in challenging times.
Looking ahead, the Chancellor expressed strong confidence in the university’s continued rise. He referred to Covenant University as “God’s own new-generation Harvard,” praying that its graduates would become highly sought after both in Nigeria and internationally, attracting global recognition and opportunities.
Pro-Chancellor Pastor Faith Oyedepo also spoke, describing the anniversary as a time to consciously acknowledge God’s goodness. “If you know how to think, you will know how to thank,” she said, underscoring the importance of gratitude in the university’s journey.
Founded by Bishop David Oyedepo and affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide, Covenant University has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading private institutions. It operates colleges of Engineering, Science and Technology, Management and Social Sciences, and Leadership and Development Studies. The university has earned recognition in global rankings, including strong showings in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, reflecting its focus on academic quality, research, entrepreneurship, and character development.
As the institution enters its 25th year, the Founder’s Day Thanksgiving reaffirmed its core mission: raising leaders who will impact Nigeria, Africa, and the world. The celebration closed on a note of optimism and resolve, with the university community toasting 24 years of unstoppable progress and looking forward to greater heights ahead.
