UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer has resigned from office as both Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party.
He announced his resignation in a statement outside 10 Downing Street on Monday, saying his decisions in office were guided by the interest of the country.
“Every decision I have made has been about putting the country I love first,” he said.
Starmer also used the moment to thank his family.
He described his wife, Vic, as his rock, and expressing love for his children, whom he called his pride and joy.
“I shall spend more time on the most important job. Being the best husband I can to my fantastic wife Vic… and being best dad I can to my beautiful children, who have been my pride and joy,” he said.
