Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have apprehended a barber named Emeka after discovering a clay pot filled with human hair and other fetish items were discovered in his one-room Umuahia flat.
The barber, who is said to be well-liked in Umuahia for his fashionable barbing techniques, was taken into custody on Tuesday when his neighbor Johnson Ikenga, complained to the police that Emeka who is also his co-tenant was intimidating him and had hired an assassin to eliminate him.
A search was reportedly conducted by policemen in the suspect’s house during the arrest, leading to the discovery of the fetish items.
When interrogated, the barber confessed that the pot belonged to him but could not explain what he used the items for or where he sourced the hairs.
However, many residents have alleged that the hairs found inside the pot may have belonged to customers who patronised the suspect.
An official statement on the matter is still being awaited from the Abia State Police Command, but the suspect has since been taken away by officers from the Central Police Station, Umuahia, for further investigation.
