Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has congratulated Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and made available to The Nation, Ambode described Hamzatâs emergence as a fitting reward for years of loyalty, commitment and service to the ruling party.

He said Hamzatâs emergence followed extensive consultations with party leaders and members across the state, a process he noted reflected the deputy governorâs deep roots within the APC.
“Your deliberate and purposeful consultations with the party hierarchy and all members of the party have demonstrated that you are a true party man committed to the partyâs ideals and values of unity and progress,â Ambode said.
He added that Hamzatâs adoption as the partyâs consensus candidate was a clear recognition of his steadfastness and dedication over the years.
He said, âBig moment for Lagos and the APC. Congratulations to Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat on emerging as our partyâs Consensus Governorship Candidate. Your years of loyalty, consistency, and service have rightfully earned this mandate.
Ambode expressed confidence in Hamzatâs ability to lead Lagos, saying the state would benefit greatly from his experience, competence and understanding of governance.
The former governor also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubuâs re-election, stressing that the continued prosperity of Lagos and Nigeria is closely tied to Tinubuâs leadership.
He called on APC members in Lagos to unite behind the partyâs candidates and work towards delivering a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections.
He said, âI remain committed to support the re-election of our Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
âThis is a call to stay united, disciplined, and focused on our collective progress.
