News - Women's Perspective

A suspect in the killing of 100 level UNIBEN Student, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa says he was paid N1 million to kill her inside a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

According to Collins Uligbe, his landlady, Mary Ade paid him the money for the assassination. He made the confession while being paraded in Benin City by the state Police Command.

Other culprits in the case include: Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Tina Samuel, Nosa Osabohien.

Uwaila was raped and hacked to death while studying inside the branch of the RCCG in May, 2020.

The incident sparked a massive nationwide protest with groups, church leaders and individuals demanding justice.

According to Collins Uligbe, the prime suspect in the gruesome murder, he used a handkerchief given to him by his landlady, Mrs Mary Laila to wipe Uwa’s blood and private part and later returned it to her. He added that the landlady needed it for ritual purposes.

Uligbe also said that while the other 5 suspects were inside the church, he was outside monitoring movements but later joined them.

He added that Nelson hit the victim with a plank and as she made to stand up, he hit her with the fire extinguisher.

The landlady denied any complicity saying she neither gave the killers money, nor demanded that they wipe her private part.

She however, admitted that while Uwaila was good looking and had everything going for her, herself and her children struggled to make a headway in life.
