The Department of State Services, DSS, has araigned five suspects before the Imo State High Court over the October 1, 2026 abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members in Imo State.
The suspects were arrested during intelligence-led operations carried out between October 10 and 14, 2026, in Rivers and Abia states.

The suspects arraigned in court are Mohammed Ali, Usman Aliyu, Babangida Aliyu, Ibrahim Jiji and Aminu Haliru.
It was earlier reported that operatives of the DSS, soldiers and policemen arrested five suspected members of the criminal gang that kidnapped 20 NYSC members in Imo State.
Other members of the gang were said to have fled with gunshot injuries during the operation launched against the suspected kidnappers, triggering security agencies to intensify efforts to track them down.
The corps members were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their assigned NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when the incident occurred.
The incident prompted fresh concerns over the safety of young Nigerians travelling to begin their national service, particularly those moving across states to attend orientation camps.
Meanwhile, the 20 prospective corps members and another passenger were eventually rescued on October 7, 2026, during a coordinated security operation at Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The victims, after their release, were taken to the DSS hospital in Owerri for medical attention and necessary checks.
