The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a man linked to the alleged unauthorised removal of a young man’s kidney in Abuja, following intervention by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The case came to public attention after Ezekiel Samuel, a young man from Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, approached VDM’s office on August 18, 2026. Samuel claimed that one of his kidneys was removed without his consent during a hospital visit in Abuja.
VDM described the matter as one of the scariest cases he had handled. He arranged further medical examinations, including scans at facilities such as Nisa Premier Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi. The scans reportedly confirmed that Samuel’s left kidney was missing.
In a subsequent update, VDM stated that investigations revealed one of Samuel’s friends had lured him to the hospital where the organ was removed. “The Nigeria Police immediately moved to make an arrest. On getting there, they arrested his friend, only to discover that his own kidney had also been removed. His friend reportedly sold his own kidney for ₦7 million,” VDM said. He added that information gathered suggested many people in the area had sold their kidneys.
The development has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about possible organ harvesting and patient safety in Nigerian hospitals. Calls for thorough investigations into the circumstances of the procedure, consent, and the role of any medical personnel involved have intensified on social media and among the public.
As of the latest reports, police action focused on the friend alleged to have facilitated the incident.
