ENUGU — Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Thursday held a town hall meeting in Enugu State as part of their ongoing engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event took place at the Amadeo Event Centre despite earlier reports of a last-minute attempt to withdraw the venue. Organisers had alleged political interference, but Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah denied any involvement, describing such claims as false. The venue management later allowed the meeting to proceed after initially raising concerns over the nature of the booking.

Speaking at the gathering, Obi challenged President Bola Tinubu to tour the country and account for his administration’s performance before seeking a second term. He said Nigerians deserved explanations on how borrowed funds and generated revenues had been used.
“Let other candidates move around and tell Nigerians what they will do for them. Your president said he will not campaign across Nigeria. He must come and campaign and tell the people what he has to offer,” Obi said. “He has been travelling outside the country. Let him take 36 days and go round and say what he has done with billions of dollars borrowed and the ones we earned. Whoever wants to be president must go round and account for his time.”
Senator Victor Umeh, who represented Anambra Central, described Obi and Kwankwaso as leaders ready to serve and urged supporters to mobilise for the election. He expressed confidence in the ticket’s cross-regional appeal, particularly Kwankwaso’s strength in the North.
The town hall formed part of a series of Obi-Kwankwaso engagements across the country under the NDC platform. Supporters on social media described the Enugu turnout as large and energetic, with some unverified posts claiming attendance exceeded one million. Independent confirmation of such figures was not available from official or mainstream sources at the time of reporting. The meeting itself was held at an indoor event centre rather than an open-air mass rally venue.
The event proceeded peacefully, with organisers emphasising the message of a “New Nigeria” focused on accountability, security and economic recovery. Further town hall meetings are planned in other states as the opposition ticket continues its nationwide outreach.
