The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the d3ath of 23-year-old student Faith Alayande (also referred to in some reports as Alayande Faith Ajoke), who d!ed after falling from the rooftop of a hostel at the institution’s Lagos Campus.
Alayande was a student of the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus. She was temporarily accommodated at the Lagos Campus hostel while participating in an externship programme.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.
In a statement signed by Aderonke O. Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, the Law School said: “Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00 am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident.”
The institution stated that it is working closely with relevant authorities and the deceased’s family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure all necessary procedures are followed.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the d3ath. According to police, the hostel matron reported the matter after Alayande was found unresponsive on the premises. Officers visited the scene and evacuated her body to a morgue. An investigation is ongoing.
Reports indicate that a hostel mate and a relative found a note believed to have been written by Alayande and began searching for her. She was subsequently found unresponsive following the fall from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building in Victoria Island.
Police statements described the circumstances as consistent with a suspected su!cide, though the Law School’s official confirmation referred to the event as a fall and did not elaborate further on the preceding circumstances.
The Law School expressed deep sadness over the tragedy and extended its deepest condolences and sympathy to Alayande’s family, colleagues, and all those affected.
