Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the Osun State governorship election, citing growing concerns about possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.
In a post shared on his X account on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Davido addressed Trump directly under the heading “A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP.” The election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Davido’s uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, is seeking a second term.
The full text of Davido’s post reads:
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.” He tagged Trump’s account, @realDonaldTrump.
The appeal comes days after Davido publicly stated that he would involve Trump if he was dissatisfied with the conduct of the poll.
During a livestream with comedian Carter Efe earlier this month, the singer said he would tag the US president on social media, contact him directly, and if necessary take his concerns to the White House, saying, “I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us.’”
Davido has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign, including chairing a youth mobilisation team and appearing at rallies in the state. Governor Adeleke faces challenges from candidates including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), among others.
The singer’s intervention has drawn significant attention on social media amid heightened political activity in Osun as the off-cycle election approaches. Security agencies have deployed personnel in the state as part of preparations for the poll.
