The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East region of the country.
In a statement released on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the agency said both individuals have been isolated. Contact identification and listing are ongoing, while laboratory testing is being conducted to determine whether they have contracted the virus.

“Two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region. Both individuals have been isolated, contact identification and listing is ongoing, and laboratory testing is being conducted,” the NCDC said in a post on its official X handle.
The agency emphasised that classification as suspected cases does not mean the individuals have tested positive for Ebola. Confirmation depends on laboratory results.
“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” the NCDC added.
The public has been advised to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation, and follow guidance from public health authorities. Further updates will be provided as verified information becomes available.
The development comes days after Nigeria confirmed its first Ebola case in more than a decade. On October 20, a 42-year-old Swiss woman who had travelled from Uganda to Abuja tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus. She and her husband were later medically evacuated to Switzerland.
Authorities have not indicated whether the two new suspected cases in the North-East are linked to the earlier confirmed case.
