Man Murders Wife

News - Women's Perspective

45-year-old painter, Akinwale Akinlabi, who is alleged to have beaten his wife to death has been remanded in a Custodial Centre by the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday.

ASP Thomas Nurudeen, the Prosecutor, told the court that the Akinlabi committed the offence at 8:00a.m. on the 2nd of February at Ijaiye Ojokoro area of Lagos.

ASP Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the defendant and his deceased wife, Tope, had a quarrel over the volume of a radio, which resulted a fight.

Speaking further, he said that the defendant shoved the deceased, who hit her head on the edge of a table and died on the way to the hospital.

Nurudeen submits that the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) which stipulates death sentence for murder.

The defendant is therefore charged with homicide but pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Chief Magistrate K.B. Ayeye, rejected Akinlabi’s plea and adjourned the case to July 28th for mention. He also ordered that his case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
