Eko Bridge, Lagos Closed !

Eko Bridge in Lagos has been closed to trafic to enable rehabilitation works on worn-out bearings.

The faulty bearings were noticed between Alaka and the Costain portion inwards Apongbon according to an announcement by the state government.

Aramide Adeyoye, Special Adviser to the state Governor on Works and Infrastructure Engineering said that the closure became necessary to avoid an obvious looming danger to motorists.

Initial assessments showed that the worn out section of the bridge could give way leading to avoidable loss of lives.

The closure, according to Adeyoye is to enable proper evaluation and repairs which should be effected as soon as possible. She apologised for the short notice but said the measure was inevitable for obvious reasons.

The Lagos State Government therefore announced alternative routes:

The state advisory recommends that those heading to Lagos Island from Funsho Williams Avenue should go through Iponri to Costain, connecting Eko Bridge through the National Theatre entry point.

“Motorists can also pass from Bode Thomas to Eric Moore Road and connect Abebe Village (Nigerian Breweries) to Costain and link their destination through national Theatre to Eko Bridge.”

Other recommended alternative routes are from the National Stadium to connect Shitta Roundabout, to Adeniran Ogunsanya Road, Bode Thomas, Eric Moore to Abebe Village (Nigerian Breweries) and Costain to link their destination through Eko Bridge.

Those driving from Ojuelegba are advised to drive through Tejuoso to Yaba, Murtala Mohammed Way to Oyingbo -Iddo -Otto to Idumota Bridge or Carter Bridge and connect their destination.

“Commuters from Agege Motor Road or Ikorodu Road should drive through Jibowu to connect Herbert Macaulay Way to Adekunle and 3rd Mainland Bridge towards Lagos Island or other destinations”, the government statement added.
