Lagos – Benjamin Nnayerugo, popularly known as Killaboi, on Thursday told a Lagos State High Court that he accidentally stabbed his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwaghagbe, in the stomach while struggling to take a steak knife from her during a heated argument at his residence.
Nnayerugo, who is standing trial for the alleged mürder of the 21-year-old Lead City University undergraduate and online influencer, gave the account while continuing his testimony under examination by his counsel, Marcel Oru, SAN, before Justice Ibironke Harrison at the J.I.C. Taylor Courthouse, Igbosere.

“We dragged the knife for about 10 minutes. She was holding on to the handle while I held the tip,” he told the court. He said he eventually gained control of the knife, but Augusta sustained the injury during the struggle and collapsed.
Nnayerugo claimed he immediately tried to help her by removing the knife and using a towel to stop the bleeding. “I thought of helping her, but there was no way to stop the blood so I took out the knife and I used a towel to stop the blood. I told her not to die and that I won’t break up with her again,” he said.
In earlier testimony this week, Nnayerugo detailed what he said triggered the confrontation. He told the court that in late June 2023, after losing money on sports betting, he began monitoring Augusta’s Instagram account after she returned to school. He claimed he discovered messages with an account identified as “Yako” that appeared to arrange a paid sexual encounter.
Nnayerugo said he obtained a virtual SIM card, created a WhatsApp account using the name and profile picture associated with “Yako,” and continued the conversation while posing as the other party. He alleged that Augusta demanded N1.5 million for the meeting, rejected his initial offer of N800,000 and later N1 million, before he agreed to the full amount. These claims about the deceased’s private communications remain assertions by the defendant and have not been established as facts by the court.
He was declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department in October 2023, and an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued. Nnayerugo was first arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in October 2023 under a false identity but escaped during a prison break the following month. He continued to evade capture across West Africa, East Asia and the Middle East using forged identities before settling in Doha, Qatar, in January 2025 under the alias Toure Abdoulaye with a fraudulent Guinean passport.
Qatari authorities arrested him in February 2025. He was extradited to Nigeria on April 19, 2025, through coordinated efforts involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL and Qatari judicial authorities.
Justice Harrison adjourned the case until December 7 and 8, 2026, for continuation of the trial. The prosecution is led by the Director of Public Prosecutions. The court has not yet ruled on the defendant’s claims, and the allegations remain unproven.
