For Rogo LGA, the report accused the chairman of undermining government policies, failing to adhere to administrative procedures and misappropriating funds meant for feeder roads and rural electrification initiatives.
The Assembly directed its Clerk to communicate the resolution to the Kano State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for immediate implementation, emphasising that the suspension would enable unimpeded investigation whilst advancing accountability in local government administration.
Meanwhile, Kano State’s Taskforce on Illegal Structures has sealed over 300 unauthorised buildings across the metropolis as part of a renewed enforcement initiative to restore urban order and ensure compliance with physical planning regulations.
The taskforce chair confirmed the operation was targeted at developments that violated the state’s approved master plan, covering major routes including Maiduguri Road, Western Bypass, Eastern Bypass, Ahmadu Bello Way and Gwarzo Road.
Sealed properties included Dan’agundi Shopping Plaza, block-making yards, a car park, a construction site belonging to a foreign firm and structures erected beneath high-tension power lines at Rimin Gata.
The taskforce was directed toward illegal developments located on road setbacks, public lands, waterways and electricity transmission corridors.
Kano State House of Assembly has suspended three local government chairmen for three months following allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office and administrative misconduct.
The affected officials are Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Gadanya of Bagwai LGA, Dr. Alhassan Salusu of Bebeji LGA and Alhaji Abubakar Mustapaha of Rogo LGA.
The suspension followed adoption of findings by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during plenary proceedings.
The investigation was initiated following petitions from the Legislative Councils of Bebeji and Rogo LGAs and concerned residents of Bagwai alleging financial impropriety, abuse of office, breach of public trust and administrative violations.
The committee examined official documents, reviewed relevant records and consulted members of the affected legislative councils.
Owners of affected properties were instructed to report to Kano Geographic Information System headquarters on Dr. Bala Muhammad Way with documentation establishing their legal status.
To clear their status and resume operations, property owners must present Certificates of Occupancy, land allocation papers and approved building plans.
Non-compliance would result in prosecution. The taskforce chair reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing physical planning laws and emphasised that Kano maintains a zero-tolerance approach toward unapproved developments.
In Bagwai LGA, the committee alleged that the chairman misappropriated funds designated for development projects.
In Bebeji LGA, findings cited alleged violations of due process in contract awards, improper disposal of council land, diversion of public funds and procurement irregularities, including claims that contractors were directed to remit payments into accounts linked to the executive chairman.
