Abuja — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has outlined simple, official procedures for candidates who have forgotten their e-Facility or CAPS profile passwords, enabling them to regain access to their accounts quickly and securely.
According to information available on JAMB’s platforms and frequently asked questions, candidates can reset a lost or forgotten profile password using their registered phone number or the official portal.

These self-service options do not require agents and are designed to help candidates check admission status, print documents, or manage other services without unnecessary delays.
Method 1: Reset Password via SMS (Recommended for Quick Recovery)
Candidates who still have the exact SIM card used during JAMB registration can recover their password through a short text message.
- Insert the registered JAMB phone number (the one linked to the profile and NIN) into a mobile phone with sufficient airtime (typically ₦50–₦100).
- Compose a new SMS in this exact format:
PASSWORD [space] your registered email address
Example:PASSWORD candidate@gmail.com - Send the message to 55019 or 66019.
- Wait a few minutes for a reply containing the new or recovered password (often beginning with “cand”).
- Log in to the JAMB e-Facility portal (efacility.jamb.gov.ng) using the email and the password received, then change it immediately to a memorable one for security.
JAMB stresses that the message must be sent from the original registered number, use the correct email linked to the profile, and follow the format precisely (one space after “PASSWORD,” no extra words or capitalisation errors). Wrong format, insufficient airtime, or use of a different phone number will cause the request to fail.
Method 2: Reset Password via the JAMB e-Facility Portal
Candidates who can still access the email address registered with JAMB can use the free online option:
- Visit the official portal at efacility.jamb.gov.ng.
- Click “Forgot Password” or the equivalent reset link on the login page.
- Enter the email address linked to the JAMB profile.
- Submit the request. A new password or reset link is sent to that email (check the inbox and spam/junk folders).
- Use the new password to log in, then update it to a strong personal password.
Important Notes on Email Access and Profile Recovery
- The password reset relies on the email already linked to the candidate’s profile. If the candidate no longer has access to that email, the portal method will not work, and the SMS method is preferred if the original SIM is available.
- Candidates who have permanently lost both the registered SIM and email access cannot complete a self-service reset. In such cases, they should visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre or office with their registration number, valid ID, and supporting documents for assisted recovery. Recent policy updates also allow controlled SIM swap or email change processes at designated centres after biometric verification, payment of the prescribed fee, and submission of a court affidavit where required.
- Always use only official JAMB channels (55019/66019, efacility.jamb.gov.ng, or support.jamb.gov.ng). Avoid third-party agents to prevent fraud.
JAMB advises all candidates to keep their registered contact details secure and up to date, as important examination and admission notifications are sent to the linked email and phone number. Candidates experiencing persistent difficulties are encouraged to raise a support ticket via the Central Online Support System at support.jamb.gov.ng or visit a designated centre.
These straightforward steps are intended to reduce access barriers and help candidates focus on their academic progression. For the most current details, candidates should refer to the official JAMB website (www.jamb.gov.ng) or the e-Facility portal.
