Lagos — Sharon Ademefun, elder sister of Afrobeats superstar Davido (David Adeleke) and Chief Financial Officer of his record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), has opened up about the weekly financial discipline she enforces on her brother in a bid to rein in his well-known love for luxury cars and jewellery.
Speaking on The Morayo Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, which aired this week, Ademefun described a structured routine of finance meetings designed to keep the Grammy-nominated artist informed about how his money is spent and to encourage greater restraint.
“Me and Davido sit and have a finance meeting every week because I think it is important for him to know how his money is being spent,” she said. “I will now say, ‘David, please, no more cars.’”
She admitted that her warnings often go unheeded. “No more jewelry. 24 hours later, you know how they normally say it, ‘2 to 3 business days’, I’ll just see on the blogs. This latest car.”
Ademefun, who is also an entrepreneur and founder of Rona Wigs Studio, explained that her professional role with her brother is a natural extension of their long-standing personal and working relationship. She has been involved in his management team since the early days of his career.
“I’ve always taken care of David. He’s always been my baby. And from the beginning of his career, we’ve always kind of worked together. I’ve always been a part of the management team,” she noted. “The problem is that me and David; we are always fighting. The one that other people can’t tell him, me, I’ll tell him.”
One of the recurring sources of friction, she said, is his spending on high-end vehicles and jewellery. The weekly meetings allow her to review expenditures and push for fiscal discipline, even if Davido’s purchases sometimes surface publicly shortly afterwards.
Ademefun’s comments come amid ongoing public fascination with Davido’s lavish lifestyle. The singer has previously spoken candidly about his own spending habits, at one point acknowledging that his wife, Chioma Adeleke, also plays a role in managing aspects of his finances because he considers himself a “reckless spender.”
As CFO of DMW, Ademefun oversees the financial operations of one of Nigeria’s most prominent music labels. Her revelations offer a rare glimpse into the private efforts within the Adeleke family to balance the demands of global stardom with responsible wealth management.
