ENUGU, Nigeria — Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has appointed veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi and popular actress Rachael Okonkwo among 101 new political aides to his administration.
The appointments were announced on Monday, September 21, 2026, in a public service statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia. The list comprises seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants, and 88 Special Assistants, all taking effect immediately.
Anunobi was named Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for the Enugu-North Zone. The veteran actress, who rose to prominence in the 1990s and has appeared in more than 90 films, later transitioned into evangelism. Her new role focuses on grassroots engagement with women in that senatorial zone.
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development. The actress, whose full name is Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo, hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State and is best known for her lead role in the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series. She began her Nollywood career in the mid-2000s.
The Special Assistant category, which includes Anunobi, covers a wide range of portfolios such as forest protection and conservation, health facility maintenance, environmental protection, market decongestion, youth engagement, civic education, media, community mobilisation, security intelligence, and social media.
The appointments bring the two Nollywood figures into the Enugu State Government, with Okonkwo tasked with advancing the film and creative sectors and Anunobi focused on women’s mobilisation efforts in the northern part of the state. The move forms part of Governor Mbah’s broader expansion of his team of aides.
