Benin City, Edo State – Residents of Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State on Monday resisted an attempt by a group of men who arrived in Hilux vehicles to remove a campaign billboard belonging to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
A video circulating on social media shows community members confronting the individuals, some of whom were wearing high-visibility safety vests, near a large political billboard featuring Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho, the NDC candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election.

The billboard also displays images of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso alongside NDC branding.
In the footage, residents can be seen gathering around the site, gesturing and arguing with the men as they apparently seek to take down the structure. The confrontation draws more onlookers, with people insisting the billboard remain in place. The men eventually appear to leave the area without completing the removal.
The incident has drawn significant attention online, garnering thousands of views and shares within hours.
This latest episode occurs against a backdrop of prior complaints by Omosigho and the NDC regarding the alleged destruction and removal of campaign materials in Oredo. The lawmaker, who currently represents Oredo East Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, previously reported that posters, banners, and billboards had been pulled down in locations including Stadium Road, Oguola, Oliha, Five Junction, and Ekenwan Road.
In late September, Omosigho’s campaign office along Stadium Road was also targeted. He said community members alerted him around 11 p.m. after unknown persons allegedly destroyed campaign materials at the premises.
The lawmaker visited the site, assessed the damage the following day, and reported the matter to the police at Aideyan (or Eyan) Police Station, as well as the Edo State Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The NDC Edo State chapter has condemned what it describes as acts of political intolerance and intimidation, urging security agencies to investigate and identify those responsible. Party officials have argued that such incidents risk restricting legitimate political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Omosigho has repeatedly called on his supporters and youths in the state to remain calm, campaign peacefully, and reject any attempts to draw them into violence. He has emphasised that elections should be decided by voters based on candidates’ programmes and capacity, not through the destruction of campaign materials.
No immediate official response from the Edo State Government, the All Progressives Congress (APC), or security agencies regarding Monday’s confrontation was available at the time of filing this report. Parallel Facts News described the vehicles involved as government Hiluxes, though independent confirmation of official affiliation was not immediately established.
The developments come as political activities intensify in Edo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties including the NDC seeking to expand their visibility in a state currently governed by the APC under Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Community members in the video and subsequent online reactions framed their resistance as a defence of democratic rights and free political expression. The episode underscores ongoing tensions over campaign infrastructure and political competition in the area.
