Arise Television’s The Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has cautioned Nigerians against assuming that the outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election will be replicated in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Monday, August 17, 2026, Oseni stressed that Nigerians must recognise the risks involved in the forthcoming national polls and prepare adequately for the challenges ahead. He argued that the federal might deployed during the Osun contest could be applied on a far larger scale in 2027.

Oseni said his earlier warnings ahead of the Osun election were meant to equip voters with knowledge of the dangers rather than to frighten them. “Last week, when I was telling the people the challenges they would face, it was not to scare them. No, I believe in telling the people the truth so that they know how to react to dangers,” he stated.
He continued: “Yes, same risk assessment. I like to say it the way it is. Tell them the risks involved, and I think it worked for the Osun people because they knew the risks involved. Don’t sugarcoat it for them.
“Just like I’m going to tell the Nigerian people the risks involved. If you think because Osun people stood up, it will be easy in 2027, you are foolish. You are delusional.
“2027 is going to be different from Osun. The federal might that they used and couldn’t execute, they will use it three times over. They will go back to the drawing board and try to perfect it.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the Osun governorship election held on August 15, 2026. Adeleke defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in a closely watched poll that many observers described as a potential dress rehearsal for the 2027 general elections.
Oseni’s comments come amid growing political speculation that the Osun result could signal broader opposition momentum against the ruling APC at the national level.
Several opposition figures and groups have already pointed to the outcome as a template or forerunner for 2027. Oseni, however, insisted that the national contest would present significantly greater challenges and that voters must remain realistic and vigilant.
The broadcaster’s remarks reinforce his consistent emphasis on transparent communication of electoral risks, a stance he has maintained in previous analyses of off-cycle and general elections in Nigeria.
