Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to comments by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo regarding Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s frequent public dancing by sharing what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE/WAEC) result on his Instagram Stories.
The exchange began on Thursday, August 6, 2026, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Osun State.
Okpebholo, supporting the party’s governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji, criticised Adeleke’s leadership style and highlighted his well-known habit of dancing at official functions.
In a video from the rally, Okpebholo said: “Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance.” He further suggested that Adeleke’s dancing caused him to miss governors’ meetings in Abuja and urged voters to collect any money offered by opponents but vote for the APC candidate in the August 15 governorship election.
Hours after the remarks circulated online, Davido, who has been actively campaigning for his uncle Adeleke’s re-election, posted a document on his verified Instagram Stories without any accompanying caption.
The shared image, widely interpreted as a response to Okpebholo, purported to show Okpebholo’s 2008 WAEC results with grades including D7 in Commerce, Christian Religious Knowledge, Economics and English Language; E8 in Government; and C5 in Mathematics.
Davido did not issue an additional statement explaining the post at the time. Reports note that the authenticity of the document has not been independently verified, and some observers have previously questioned similar circulating results. Governor Okpebholo had not publicly responded to the singer’s action as of the latest available reports.
In a separate appearance at a campaign event in Osogbo on Friday, Davido addressed Okpebholo’s comments more directly, questioning whether there was anything wrong with dancing and criticising the Edo governor’s remarks. He also praised the Adeleke administration’s performance and appealed to President Bola Tinubu for a free and fair election in Osun State.
The incident comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the Osun governorship election, with Davido as always, playing a visible role in his uncle’s campaign. No further official statements from the parties involved have been made public as at the time of this report.
