Osogbo, Osun State — The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, on Sunday paid a visit to Osun State Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke at the State Government House in Osogbo.
Basiru described the engagement as a congratulatory visit following Adeleke’s recent victory in the August 15 Osun governorship election, in which the governor, running on the Accord Party platform, defeated the APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
The APC National Secretary also used the occasion to thank the governor for attending the burial of his late mother.
Beyond the courtesy aspects, Basiru said the meeting centred on strategies to deliver Osun State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. “On a congratulatory visit to His Excellency, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, on his victory at the polls, and to specially appreciate him for his visit during the burial of my late mother, as well as to discuss how to deliver Osun for Mr. President, as promised by Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the 2027 Presidential Election,” Basiru stated after the visit.
He added that Governor Adeleke had promised during their discussion to work towards securing the state for the President’s re-election bid.
The visit comes amid heightened political consultations across Nigeria as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. Adeleke had previously met President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja shortly after his re-election, a meeting that sparked speculation about possible political realignment. His campaign council has maintained that the governor has no plans to join the APC and remains with the Accord Party.
Political observers note that the engagement between the APC National Secretary and the Osun governor reflects ongoing efforts by the ruling party and other stakeholders to build broader support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition, even across party lines in key states. Basiru’s visit underscores the strategic importance of Osun in the South-West geopolitical zone ahead of the next presidential contest.
