Imagine losing your father in a military aircraft crash.
Then, 20 years later, losing your husband in another military aircraft crash — just 16 days after your wedding.

That is the heartbreaking story now being reported about Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle.
On September 17, 2006, her father, Wing Commander E.O. Adekunle, was among the Nigerian military officers who died when a Nigerian Air Force Dornier 228 crashed in Vandeikya, Benue State.
He left home for an official military assignment.
He never returned.
Years passed. Damilola grew up and, like her father, became an officer in the Nigerian Air Force.
Then came September 19, 2026.
Damilola married Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, another Nigerian Air Force officer, in Abuja.
It was supposed to be the beginning of a beautiful life together.
A new home.
A new family.
New dreams.
But just 16 days later, on October 5, tragedy struck again.
Man-Ugwueje was serving as a co-pilot aboard NAF 931 when the aircraft crashed at Igbokoda in Ondo State. The Nigerian Air Force later confirmed that all 25 people on board died.
Think about that for a moment.
A daughter who lost her father in an Air Force crash in 2006…
finally found love…
married another Air Force officer…
and only 16 days later, another aircraft crash took her husband.
Twenty years apart.
Two different crashes.
One family carrying the pain of both.
Even more painfully, Man-Ugwueje also came from a military family; his father was identified as a retired Group Captain.
Two families connected by service.
Two generations of military commitment.
And now, unimaginable grief.
We may never fully understand why some families are asked to carry such heavy burdens.
But behind every name released after an aircraft crash is a family.
A wife.
A husband.
A child.
A parent.
A friend.
Someone who was waiting for that person to come home.
Today, our hearts go out especially to Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, who has suffered a loss that words cannot adequately describe.
May God give her strength to face the days ahead.
May He comfort every grieving family.
And may the souls of Wing Commander E.O. Adekunle, Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, and all those who lost their lives in these tragedies rest in peace.
Some wounds are not easily explained.
Some stories are not easily forgotten.
And some pain can only be carried with God’s strength.
May God comfort the bereaved.
