Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has explained why she gave her former husband an important role during the wedding ceremony of their daughter, Priscilla.
Speaking during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, said the decision was made for the sake of their child and to build a better future for the family.
Ojo said she wanted to stop a pattern of broken marriages that had affected previous generations in her family.
She said many people refer to such repeated family experiences as ancestral curses, and she was determined not to allow the same thing to continue with her children.
The actress disclosed that her own parents did not stay together and that her marriage also ended.
Because of those experiences, she decided long ago that her children would not go through the same situation if she could help it.
According to her, she made many sacrifices to see Priscilla succeed and enjoy a happy marriage.
She said it was only right that Priscilla’s father should be present and receive the respect due to him because he is alive and remains their daughter’s father.
She said: “I made my choice to marry him, so whatever that’s going on between me and him is between us. It shouldn’t extend to the children. My parents were not together, and my marriage also failed. I decided my children would not repeat that pattern. I paid the price to make sure Priscilla succeeds and has a happy marriage. Because Priscilla’s father is alive, he deserved to be present and be honoured on her wedding day.”
