The family of veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has announced the programme for his final rites following his death on 16 September 2026 at the age of 84.
According to details shared publicly, including a burial poster circulated by actress Gloria Anozie Young, a Night of Tributes will be held on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Glover Memorial Hall, 4 Customs Street (also referenced as 19 Marina Road), Marina, Lagos Island. Guests are requested to wear shades of blue.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, 2 October 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The dress code for the service is shades of green.
Jacobs’ widow, veteran actress Joke Silva, has formally invited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the ceremonies. In a letter dated 23 September 2026, Silva thanked the President for his condolence message and for recognising the late actor’s contributions to Nigeria’s creative industry. She described her husband’s life as one devoted to the arts over more than five decades and said the President’s presence would be a great honour to the family.
Jacobs, who was also known as “The Lion of Lufodo,” was one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with a career spanning theatre, television and film in Britain and Nigeria. His d3ath was announced by his wife, Joke Silva, and their son, Olusoji Jacobs, who requested that bloggers and social media influencers respect the family’s privacy during the period of mourning.
The announced events provide an opportunity for family, friends, colleagues and admirers to celebrate Jacobs’ life and legacy in the Nigerian creative industry.
