A video showing the moment a mobile phone was allegedly stolen from a lawmaker in the House of Representatives, Amobi Ogah, has gone viral on social media, generating widespread reactions.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, March 26, during the funeral of the late clergyman, Reverend Uma Ukpai, held at the International Conference Center, Umuahia.
In the trending clip, the lawmaker is seen moving through the crowded venue, surrounded by a group of attendees who gathered for the solemn occasion.
Amid the movement and close contact typical of such events, an unidentified man was able to get very close to Ogah. Moments later, the suspect is seen allegedly taking the lawmaker’s phone without drawing immediate attention.
The video further shows the point at which Ogah appears to realize that his phone is missing. However, due to the number of people around him at the time, he seemed unable to immediately identify the individual responsible for the theft.
The incident has since generated significant buzz online, with many expressing concern over security lapses at public gatherings, even at high-profile events attended by prominent figures.
Hon Amobi Ogah subsequently offered a N500,000 reward for anyone who is able to fish out the pickpocket.
