The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the reduction of marriage licence fees for places of worship. The fees are now slashed from N30,000 previously for 2 years to N6,000 payable annually for 6 years in the first instance.
The renewal of Marriage Licence by a Place of Public Worship will now attract the sum of N5,000 par annum, payable for 3 years at each instance instead of the N30,000 previously charged annually.
Mr Mohammed Manga Director, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Interior, made this known today, 30th June.
The statement issued by the minister of Interior, Ogbeni @raufaregbesola  was issued in a public notice signed by the Permanent Secretary and Principal Registrar of Marriages, Georgina Ehuriah. The Public Notice state that the adjustment is an off-shoot of the recommendations made by stakeholders.
A statement monitored on the twitter handle of the ministry of Interior further states that “the fees chargeable for Statutory Ordinary Marriage has also been cut down from N21,000 to N15,000 while that of the Statutory Special Licence has been slashed from N35,000 to N25,000.”
According to Manga, “the fees chargeable for the Issuance of Fresh Marriage Licence to a place of Public Worship has been reduced from N30,000 for two (2) years to N6,000 yearly, payable for five years in the first instance.
The Federal Government has approved a downward review of the fees chargeable for services related to the Conduct of Statutory Marriage under the Marriage Act CAP M6 LFN 2004 to commence from Wednesday, 1st July, 2020.”
