First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has charged the media to stop ignoring the First Ladies and wives of State Governors.

The wife of the President made her request known in Abuja, at an event where some First Ladies were honoured.

Mrs Buhari who was the special guest of honour at the event was represented by her spokesperson, Aliyu Abdullahi.

In her remarks, Aisha commended the state First Ladies for assisting women, the elderly, the poor and the less-privileged.

Addressing the media, she said that, “I call on media practitioners to engage more with First Ladies so that their projects can get more visibility.

“The partnership will be a win-win because the media would have discharged a part of its social responsibility.”

The First Lady’s remarks are coming after former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi asked President Muhammadu Buhari and governors to explain the basis for the existence of the office of the First Lady.

Obi described the budgetary allocation for the office as an unnecessary expenditure that should be channeled into something worthwhile.

The former Vice Presidential Candidate stated this on Tuesday when he appeared as guest speaker at the 8th Annual Foursquare Gospel Church colloquium in Lagos. The event was organised to raise public consciousness on pressing issues in the polity with a view to finding solutions.
