Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun west, has met with Iyabo Obasanjo, former lawmaker, to seek her support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
On April 13, Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, announced Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship race.

Speaking during a party caucus meeting in Abeokuta, the state capital, Abiodun said the decision followed extensive consultations within party leadership, noting that it was intended to promote unity and continuity within the APC.
Iyabo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had earlier shown interest in the race but later suspended her aspiration following the party’s consensus arrangement.
She, however, raised concerns about how the process was handled, alleging that some of her supporters were denied entry into the meeting venue.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Adeola visited her in Abeokuta alongside former deputy governors Segun Adesegun and Salmot Badru, as well as other party stakeholders.
During the visit, Adeola praised the former senator’s “maturity and magnanimity” in accepting the party’s decision.
“Shortly after the party picked me as the consensus governorship candidate, my dear sister, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, issued a public statement aligning with the party and promised to work with me,” he said, according to the Punch.
“I was honoured by her gesture and immediately reached out to thank her. I also pledged to work with her and her team.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. That is why I am here today—to ensure we work together for the progress of our dear state.”
Adeola assured her supporters of inclusion in party activities and decision-making.
