Ex-President Obasanjo’s house caught fire Wednesday, 12th February night.

The fire which started at about 9:30pm according to eye witnesses left residents of Abeokuta in fear as it was least expected from the house of a powerful citizen of Nigeria.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s house is situated at Ita-Eko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Witnesses say the fire was very likely caused by a power surge. According to the eye witness, they heard and saw a spark in the house as soon as the public power supply was restored to the building.

Another witness confirmed that the  inferno was caused by a power surge.

Residents of the area and sympathisers trooped out to assist the former President ‘s domestic to put out the fire.

However, The Director of Fire Service in Ogun State, Fatai Adefala, that the fire only burnt a store and did not get to the main building.

Adefala also confirmed that officials of the state fire service swiftly responded to distress calls received and swooped in immediately. Thereafter, they put out the fire,
