Abuja – A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Buba Galadima, has alleged that former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi is coordinating a group of seven opposition figures working to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Galadima made the claim on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme. He expressed confidence that NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi would win the election if it is conducted freely and fairly.
“I also want to say publicly that I am one of the group of opposition candidates, seven of us, under the coordination of Governor Fayemi Kayode, working on that, and we are making progress,” Galadima stated. When asked what the group was working on, he replied directly: “To defeat Tinubu.”
The NDC chieftain did not name the other six members of the alleged group. His comments come amid growing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various opposition figures and parties positioning themselves against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayemi, a founding member of the APC, has previously criticised aspects of the ruling party’s direction. In March 2026, the APC National Secretary publicly urged him to resign from the party if he no longer shared its ideals. There has been no immediate public response from Fayemi to Galadima’s latest allegation.
A media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, shared a clip of the interview online and said he would not believe the claim until Fayemi himself debunks it.
Galadima’s remarks add to the intensifying political discourse as the NDC continues to mobilise support behind Obi, while the APC prepares for Tinubu’s re-election bid. The former Ekiti governor has not yet issued a formal statement addressing the specific allegation that he is coordinating efforts against the President.
