Nigeria’s artiste manager, Soso Soberekon is upset with the rate of divorce in Nigeria. He has instructed any friend asking him to buy an Aso-Ebi for his or her wedding to “refund my money with interest” if they ever divorce.
He finds it inconceivable that friends would invite someone to a wedding, ask him to pay tens of thousands of Naira for Aso-Ebi only to divorce within a short time.
This is made worse when he sacrifices his comfort and valuable time to attend the wedding. In some cases, travels between states, taking flights in addition to the Aso-Ebi, all at his own expense.
For him that is used to travelling business and first class, it is indeed some sacrifice and a huge investment.
He insists he finds it truly annoying why marriages these days do not make it beyond 2 years in most cases. He is therefore asking his friends, “do you want to divorce ? Refund my money with interest !”
In his words:
“It’s so annoying.
“I bought an ASO-EBI for N65k last year December and travelled all the way to Enugu from Lagos for the wedding. Paid my flight and ticket to and fro, only for me to hear today that the couple divorced 4 days ago !
“Marriages don’t last more than 2 years these days, don’t know why. So from now on, anyone who brings ASO-EBI of over N1,500 for me; will sign an agreement with my lawyer…You divorce, you refund me my money with interest !
