Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed some of the personal questions his daughters often put to him as they grow older, offering a candid glimpse into his life as a father of multiple children from different relationships.
In a BBC interview, the singer disclosed that his two eldest daughters, Imade and Hailey, have become increasingly curious about their family setup. He said the girls regularly ask why they have different mothers and why they do not live with him full-time.
“My children are coming of age and they have started asking why they have different moms and why don’t they live with me and stuff that kids ask,” Davido explained.
He also recalled a specific moment that caught him off guard. His first daughter, Imade, once confronted him after spotting him on television. “One day, my first daughter walked up to me and said, ‘Daddy, I saw you on TV holding and dancing with two girls,’” he shared. The experience, he noted, has made him more mindful of how his public image and career affect his children.
In a separate BBC “This Is Africa” podcast conversation, Davido further opened up about the evolving conversations he has with Imade and Hailey. The girls have begun confiding in him about the boys they have crushes on at school—a development that underscored for him how fully he has stepped into the role of a hands-on father.
“Now my daughters are telling me about the boys they’re crushing on at school. That’s when I realised I have officially become a full-grown father,” he said.
Davido has also spoken about the contrasting personalities of the two girls. Imade sometimes asks to go somewhere quiet without people or paparazzi so she can spend private time with her dad, while Hailey is more outgoing and comfortable with cameras and attention.
The singer, who shares children with several women including his wife Chioma Adeleke (with whom he has twins), has repeatedly emphasised that he makes a deliberate effort to stay involved in all his children’s lives despite the complexities of their family structure. He has six children in total (one of whom, son Ifeanyi, died in 2022).
